Day 5: Friday July 29th, 2011

Today was our last day at Raquette Lake. I was really hoping for pancakes again, but the eggs and homefries were really good too. I'm going to miss all the amazing food that they had up here.

This week flew by. The first few days were kind of slow. We had to get the more bland activities out of the way before we could really begin to explore and dive into the information.

My favorite day was by far the trips to the Museums. Being a visual learner, it was really cool to see replicas, and originals, of the natural and cultural history of the Adirondacks.

Now that the class is over, I'm looking forward to traveling back up to the Adirondacks. Probably not to Raquette Lake specifically so that I can further explore this great park.

Day 4: Thursday July 28th, 2011

Today was the best day yet! We FINALLY had some real free time. After breakfast and until lunch was dubbed free time to enjoy the lake or get some work done. I chose to do the latter. My online class has been kicking my butt all summer. I'm ready for it to be over.

Lunch was grilled cheese and it was GREAT! After lunch we did the low ropes course. It was pretty cool. It was nice to play some games that I hadn't played before as well as get a refresher on some of the ones that I have played.

This evening we went to St. Williams church to hear a concert. We decided to stay outside during the concert because we wanted to enjoy the outdoors and we knew that we would want to talk throughout the whole thing. Kathy brought her camera and we had an awesome photo shoot. It was A LOT of fun.

Tonight we are just chilling in the cabin. Lindsay, Courtney, and Kathy are playing Rummy. Nicole is down at the dock talking to her boyfriend. Julie is still working on her project. Lastly, I am looking for jobs/apartments in Philadelphia. Still hoping and praying for the job!

Lastly, it has been a lot of fun having this class with these girls. We were already close before, and now we're just all the closer=)

Day 3: Wednesday July27th, 2011

Today has been an exciting day thus far. Breakfast was AMAZING! Breakfast sandwich on a crissont (sp?). Then we packed luches, also delicious, and headed out on our field trips.

Ferd's Bog was really cool. It was interesting to see all of the native plant life. Kathy and Jason weren't hesitant to walk out on the bog. They were wandering all over without a care in the world about potentially breaking through the thick moss. I'm excited to see all of the pictures that Kathy got. She has already uploaded a bunch to facebook.

After the bog we went on a 2.2 mile hike up to Bear Mountain. The views at the top were absolutely gorgeous. It was really cool to see soo many mountain tops without buildings on them. I'm glad that the Adirondacks have been so preserved. The hike itself was tough at times. Courtney and I were getting very winded towards the end but it felt like such an accomplishment to reach the top. We didn't walk all the way up to the Summit but the view we saw was great.

Now we are just hanging out, blogging, and getting ready to go kayaking for which I am VERY excited about. I've been wanting to go since we first got here. Hopefully it is a dry experience=)

Day 2: Tuesday July 26th, 2011

It was soo nice to do some "real" learning today. Everything that we have done thus far technically could have been done on Cortland campus/ Lime Hollow. Today, however, we went to some really neat museums. I love learning about the history of a location. Everything in the museums was very well preserved and gave me a greater understanding of what life would have been like back during the logging, and inital settlement, days.

After the two museums we stopped at The Tap Room in the Hamlet of Raquette Lake to have a drink and a snack. It was cool to talk with some locals and learn a little bit more about the lifestyle in  this small village. There were even sketches of the locals posted up on the walls and badges from all the local fire and police departments.

This evening, after dinner, we are supposed to go kayaking. I am SOOOOOOOOOOO excited. I've never been kayaking before and I've always wanted to go. I'm hoping that the weather will begin to cooperate so that we can get some lake experience. The lake itself is very much connected to the inital settlement and resources that supplied Raquette Lake. It's a shame that we have been here so long already and barely touched the water. Can't wait!

Day 1: July 25th, 2011

Well it's our first full day and it's pouring down rain outside. Sounds so nice to hear the rain again. At home (Elmira) it hasn't rained in over 3 weeks. Then again I have been in Philadelphia since June 6th so I've been trying to survive the high heat and humidity.

I must say, it's really tempting to see the lake all day every day and not have been allowed time to explore it. I can see the kayaks out of my window and the stairwell that leads off our deck points directly at them. The fact that it's thundering outside makes going out on the water a whole lot less tempting. Hopefully I'll get some free time to go explore soon. The thought of waking up early to go out doesn't exactly appeal to me. I love my sleep.

Our schedule is very packed with information and activities. The weather for the remainder of the week looks beautiful. Can't wait to get outside and explore some more. It is beautiful up here!
